6x6 or 8x8 - What are their differences?

Hello, I'm a brazilizan civilian that has interest in it's military might and tecnology. Recently came to my attemption that ou army is mordenizing it's armored vehicles arsenal. The choice is VBTP-MR Guarani 6x6 by Iveco. Though in news I heard that there are actually 2 main plataforms for this Iveco model. There is a 6x6 and there is a 8x8. During my small research I noticed that Brazil actually is planning on keeping this 6x6 plataform - not only based on experience with this 6x6 (the plataform beeing replaced is the EE-9 Cascavel is 6x6 aswell). Even some articles stated that experience and advancements on the 6x6 field were one of the main reasons for the choice. Also there are talks about expanding the uses for the plataform such as scout variants and full combat designated (without troops carring capacity and tank cannons).

My question though is... Is this really the case? I know that other plataforms actually employ the 8x8 as default - one beeing the LAV - and that feels... "odd" for me. Some sources even point out the cost reduction on maintenance and production.

Now talking about Brazil's terrain. It's a quite large country with multiple climates. We have from wetlands amd swamp-ish reagions to arid almost desert regions with a large variation of mountainous formations -and types aswell.

Do you know any decent articles to help me out? Or maybe some research tat states the pros an cons of each one.
