Dad was in army — question about benefits please help
Posted on
My dad was in the army in the 1980’s—didn’t serve during wartime and honorably discharged. He was in Germany (Bavaria). He always told me that when he passed away I need to keep his DD-214 and take it to the VA and I would get some kind of monetary benefit. He mentioned it several times and made sure I knew where everything was.
He passed in 2016 (VA has since left a very bad taste in my mouth and I really don’t feel like they will be helpful if I go up and ask). I was his only child and heir, and executor of his will. I haven’t dealt with this for three years bc his death was very traumatic and shocking, so having to explain this to a secretary who doesn’t care will bring up bad memories...
I’m wondering if anyone can help me find out what this benefit is and how to go about getting it? I think he said it was around $250-$300 I just don’t remember what it’s for and how to explain when I go to VA.
Thank you.
