DEPRESSION IN THE NAVY
Posted on
HEY BIG NAVY. Happy May- which also happens to be mental health awareness month. I'd love if everyone took a second to read this poem my husband wrote while on "suicide watch". He is barely surviving out there but since he hasn't "taken any action"- they aren't doing anything about it and of course he will remain at sea. They need to understand that each person is different and this is affecting people differently than others. HE IS NOT JUST A NUMBER. We've both tried reaching out to numerous resources. ******PLEASE SHARE******
Depression in the Navy
"You are not a person You are just a billet
I don’t care for your name I just need you to fill it
“Be resilient. Just tough it out” Yeah, keep speaking your script
I didn’t share my pain Because I knew this would be it
Let’s imagine the rolls were flipped
Im going to downplay your thoughts And down play your feelings
I can give you Band-Aid But I can’t offer any healing
“My door is always open” But I don’t have the answer
Listen you'll be fine Its depression not cancer
I report to the birds and the stars
Stop complaining, Your life isn’t that hard
You struggle to sleep? Well here’s a pill
You have suicidal thoughts? They’re probably not real
Fuck your rubrics And Fuck your charts
I am a human And this is my heart And this my brain
You combine the two And they can feel my pain
You can see the clouds But the storm you can’t predict
I’m good today. But, what if tomorrow was it."
