I'm worried for a friend of mine, and not sure what i should or even could do.
I don't know him in person, we've been good friends over the internet for about five or six years now. He joined the US Army about two years ago, and was very enthusiastic about it, even earned some praise from his commanding officers when he graduated basic if i recall. Ever since then it's been going downhill slowly, he had broken up with his fiance just prior to joining up, which is something he never seemed to let go of. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2019 and was mostly on an FOB from what i recall, however he said that he saw people getting hit, blown to pieces et cetera, and the mortar strikes always kept him up. During his deployment he was constantly in opposition with his leadership, which seems to have fostered a hatred for the US Military. This is unhelped by the fact that he's susceptible to all the controversy and conspiracies going around on the internet and the media, leading him to believe that the US Military are a bunch of traitors, who "only fight wars for the jews and not america".
Fast forwards to this year, he's back from his deployment but his attitude has only gotten worse, he has picked up drinking and what seems to be an addiction to painkillers due to chronic back pain, which he also blames the army for. I cant go a conversation with him without him mentioning how he wants to shoot his leadership and then himself, turn his gun on the military as soon as civil war breaks out, or something else of the sort. He has been seeing the psychiatrist aswell but it has not helped at all. It's tearing me apart seeing what was once a great friend of mine being turned into something unrecognizable right in front of my eyes, and i'm all out of ideas.
