How have women been integrated into US artillery?
Posted on
I served in the artillery in the Marines back when it was male only in the mid-2000s. Back then, before we knew that combat arms would be opened to women troops across the board, a lot of us predicted that the artillery would be the first combat MOS open to women since many jobs (like Fire Direction) don't rely much on physical strength (which we viewed as a limiting factor).
So now in 2019, how have women been integrated into US artillery? Do they disproportionately end up in Fire Direction and similar jobs of less physicality, or do you have many women crewing howitzers and serving as Forward Observers with infantry units?
