I want to be Medically Discharged for Mental Health / OCD
Posted on
I’ve been in the Navy for 2 years now. I didn’t tell my recruiter, but prior to joining I had very bad undiagnosed OCD, and it’s actually gotten much worse while I’ve been in. If you’ve ever watched the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, “The Aviator”, the overall symptoms are slowly getting to be that bad, Howard Hughes level stuff. People that know me would consider me to be a normal person but I’m very good at hiding my symptoms and I do most of my rituals behind closed doors or in public bathrooms. Please don’t ask me for any details regarding the rituals or symptoms. I’ve probably got other mental health problems besides the OCD, but the OCD is the big one. I’m a very controlling person by nature, and my control freak qualities are quadrupled by my OCD. The fact that I can’t quit the Navy to pursue different employment or control where I live makes me want to throw a chair through a window. I’ve even recovered for a day or two through self treatment, but I’m usually snapped back into it my OCD disorder when I realize I’m doing something I’m not passionate about at all and that I can’t willingly end my employment because I’m bound by a contract. Since I’ve been in, I’ve gotten a whole new perspective on life, and I think about being a civilian again everyday of my life. I feel like a complete scumbag and an utter piece of garbage for saying this and making this post, but I think I want to try to get medically discharged for mental health. If I go to mental health, get diagnosed, and get medically discharged for my condition, would I still be able to use the MGIB for education purposes?
I might just try to get out anyways even if I can’t get any education benefits because I want to protect my mental health. Still, I want to know if I can still get any education benefits if I receive a medical discharge.
