Is it wrong to thank you for your service?
Posted on
I generally made it a point to thank troops and veterans for their military service. I never made a big deal out of it. If I saw someone in uniform I would nod and simply thank them for their service. If I was in a restaurant I might discreetly pay for their dinner and ask the waitstaff to thank them. To my eyes it is beautiful that someone would make the choice to serve others.
However I just read a forum thread where someone remarked that they detest random people coming up and thanking them for their service. This has me second guessing whether it is inappropriate to do this. It was never my intention to make anyone uncomfortable - just a genuine expression of gratitude.
So I ask all of you fine people - should I refrain from thanking people who serve or is it okay if done quickly and sincerely?
