Joining with prior medication taken for social anxiety
Posted on
Hey, as the title says I took medication (Sertraline) for social anxiety about 6 months ago. I only took it for 2 or 3 weeks and quickly realized I was just awkward, and didn't suffer from social anxiety. It was a low dosage as well (50mg). I'm a senior so by time I would be shipping (June) it will have been a year.
I realize that it doesn't matter that I only took it for that short time, as it's on my record.
If I were to attempt getting a waiver, how long does it usually take? Does anyone have specific experience getting a waiver for a prior social anxiety/anxiety diagnosis?
I'm going to my recruiter in a couple days to talk more, but I would really appreciate advice here. This has really been eating at me. I don't want to lie and get discharged later with fraudulent enlistment. I apologize for the redundant thread, but I haven't been able to find solid advice about my specific problem. I'm assuming social anxiety isn't really an issue, just the medication use.
I've also got to worry about my childhood asthma as well, so this doesn't really help me. I stopped having asthma a long time ago, but my mother insisted on it being on every medical forum I filled.
If I don't tell anyone, what's the chance I'll be found out? I've heard when they do deeper background checks for clearances that's when people can be caught. If I am in for 6 years and they figure out, does it matter?
Thanks for the advice.
TLDR: Took social anxiety meds, not sure what to do. Dont have symptoms or condition anymore (never really did). Lie or tell truth? Try to get waiver?
