Before I get any shit, I was just a guard guy (15R/15T) for a six year enlistment. Didn’t get the chance to deploy but got to help out during the hurricanes in 2017. Last drill was yesterday. I was looking forward to getting out to start the next chapter in my life. Got married, graduated college, and moved to a new city all in 2019. Long story short, it’s a lot fucking harder than I thought. I definitely won’t miss the bullshit, but the shenanigans, the guys, and the sense of purpose. I spent a lot of time either on orders or doing AFTPs so it was a lot more than “just one weekend a month.” Just needed a place to vent and looking for some input on how some of you guys moved on.
