Possible Waiver?
Posted on
I’m interested in joining the AF Reserves as an officer. Yesterday morning I spoke with a national recruiter, and even though I’m a well-qualified candidate, she immediately shut me down when I revealed that I take an anti-anxiety medication. Yes, I have had anxiety most of my life, but it is incredibly well-regulated with a common medication and I know how to mitigate it in stressful situations (I was a college athlete and my current job routinely puts me in difficult situations where I’m forced to make split second decisions under pressure). I’ve never had a mental breakdown or sought inpatient care. Does anyone know if I have a chance at obtaining a waiver? I’m confused as to why the AF is willing to give anxiety medications (some stronger than what I am on) to current service members but will not consider someone with a demonstrated history of stability with minor anxiety meds?
