Question about TBI
Posted on
I was an M2 gunner in an M1114 in 05-06 in Iraq (Reserves). Mostly convoy security finding IEDs. I found a couple the hard way (documented). When I got back the demob guy told me I probably had TBI but there weren’t any tests or anything. I’m still in the reserves. After all these years my back problems caught up to me and I went to the VA for the first time ever to service connect my Disc Degeneration and sciatica and stuff. They denied me and said I didn’t have a documented injury. It was more of just the wear and tear I had from Iraq that cause my back to be weak and get issues but okay I guess, I think I’ll appeal but haven’t decided yet if I wanna screw with it. My question is should I get tested for TBI even though I don’t have symptoms? I don’t want what’s happening with my back now to happen with my brain down the road and then have the VA say it’s age related like they’re saying my back is (I’m 33) Is this a waste of time? I truly don’t care about a rating or money, I do fine without that. I just don’t want to end up disabled and jobless and a burden on my wife, it’s bad enough she has to help me put on my socks on some mornings as it is. Sorry for the rambling, just looking for advice from anyone that’s gone through this.
