Question about veteran's preference
Posted on
So I already talked to the army recruiter and he gave me the wrong information, so now I am kind of wary about what he says.
I am planning on applying to federal law enforcement jobs (such as CBP, Secret Service, Border Patrol) in the future. I wanted to know if I enlist for the army for 2 years would I get veterans preference when applying to those jobs?
Online those jobs say they give veterans preference when:
- For more than 180 consecutive days, other than for training, any part of which occurred during the period beginning September 11, 2001, and ending on August 31, 2010, the last day of Operation Iraqi Freedom, OR
During the Gulf War, between August 2, 1990 and January 2, 1992, OR
For more than 180 consecutive days, other than for training, any part of which occurred after January 31, 1955 and before October 15, 1976, OR
Between April 28, 1952 and July 1, 1955 OR
In a war, campaign or expedition for which a campaign medal or badge has been authorized.
In my case, I believe the last bullet point would apply? Can anyone confirm? I tried asking the jobs themselves but they just give me those bullet points.
