Question: Dependent children and learner's permit to learn to drive
Posted on
Greeting all, I have a son who is approaching the age to obtain his permit. I am an Alaska resident and maintain my driver license in Alaska. We are currently stationed in Alabama, if he gets his permit here, will that have any causal change of his own residency? He was born in NC, lived in MI, AK, HI, and now AL. Also, oddly enough the learner's permit states that "The "Y" restriction indicates that the holder may operate a motor vehicle while accompanied by a person who is 21 years of age or older and, who is duly licensed in this state or a licensed or certified driving instructor occupying the seat beside the operator."
I am probably overthinking it, and he's fine, but curious how other parents have handled similar situation? Getting him a permit in home state seems unpractical, and by the way it's written he wouldn't be legal to drive with me.
Appreciate the insight
