Question for current or former doctors who have served in the Australian defence force. Experiences from other nations also welcome

I’ve always wanted to be in the military, but given that I have ADHD, the front line combat roles are pretty much ruled out for me unless I stop taking Ritalin. I don’t want to do that, at all.
However there is a possibility that I can work as a doctor in the defence force. The need to take a medication like Ritalin is assessed on a case by case basis for positions where supply lines are relatively stable and where you’re not technically at the front (according to the one recruiter I’ve spoken too).
I’m particularly interested in psychiatry and would be interested in pursuing a fellowship down the line. I also know that defence is notorious for over promising and then slowing career development to suit it’s own needs.
Does being a doctor in the military effectively confine you to trauma medicine and general practice?
Knowing what you know now, would you still have gone in as a doctor in defence?
Are spots for deployments highly sought after? I really want to go and deploy, but is it like the rest of the army in that units move on rotation through an area, or can you volunteer for deployments ahead of schedule?
In before “you can’t be in the Australian Defence Force and have ADHD”. That is no longer the policy. It is a case by case assessment.
Also, bonus points if you are in infantry / SF and have ADHD. If you are, I would LOVE to hear about whether or not you are allowed access to stimulant medication, or whether you’re only given access to medications like Strattera (Atomoxetine). (Doesn’t matter if you’re Aussie or not here, I’d still like to know)
Thanks everyone!
