Should conscription be reintroduced? Why or why not?
Posted on
I live in the US and I have a female friend who is Turkish. She lives here in California and has a very American lifestyle.
But her brother lives in Turkey and conscription is legal there. He might go to Syria to help fight Erdogan’s war against the Kurds and Syrian government.
My friend is very upset and worried about her brother who is technically still a teenager. But he will only be serving six months and might not even go to Syria but he wants to because he is not only nationalistic but also in Turkey, you are considered more manly if you fight in a war. You get more honors and respect from society.
Should conscription be re introduced here in the US? I think it should. At least for six months. I don’t see what would be so bad about it.
There are plenty of self-entitled teenage boys and men in their 20s who just care about drinking, skating, dancing, smoking, and living a decadent lifestyle.
Six months is really not that much.
