The burden of military sexual trauma
Most don’t report because they don’t believe anything will happen to the perpetrator. They’re usually right.
To chain of command, you’re a burden, a sore that won’t go away.
To the legal system, a dime a dozen. “Another one”
No one cares you were assaulted.
The support system slowly slips away, people stop checking on you.
People would rather forget about you and the bad things that happened then guide victims to safety and solace.
Ignoring the issue is easier than caring and advocating.
The hardship of dealing with victims on chain of command is immense but that only gets projected to the victim as being an obstacle .
The only thing that hurts more then feeling like a burden... is the retaliation.
