Yesterday, I had an argument with my buddy on South Korean conscription; especially on how the length of military service has impact on our readiness.
My point was most countries with conscription keep it at least 2 years for reasons: 1) it takes approximately 2 years to prepare militarily utilizable men; 2) the reduction in the length of service will lead to reduction in readiness as well.
In contrast, my buddy argued that 1 year should suffice for what I have mentioned above because military service is basically repetition of meaningless tasks every day while actual military drills only take up small portion of the whole period.
So I think I could use some thoughts or ideas of yours! Please share yours with me.
