"We are resources, not people." Covid-19 in the Navy
Posted on
example of a plea for consideration
In response to the virus, Navy ships have been changing schedules on when they go back out to sea. With this comes the issue of the people who actually man these vessels. We live off ship, off base and normally receive deadlines for this sort of thing because it takes time to relocate your entire life from your home or dorm to a tiny bunk bed and locker. With the virus spreading and continuing to pop up in places certain vessels have gone from a set deadline for this move to a "you might not be allowed to get back off tomorrow so be ready for that before you come in to work tomorrow." This, as I'm sure you can imagine, is insanely unrealistic. Despite that fact, I doubt the chain of command cares.
Its in the midst of crisis or stress that we see people's true colors, and it is clear to see that in this case, me and my fellow service members are nothing but cogs in the machine. We are resources, not people.
