Women who enlisted Active Duty with a young child/children - were you able to keep your kids close?

Posted on December 5, 2019

Hello,

I was sworn into the US Navy and was set to leave in March but got pregnant. If the pregnancy is viable and healthy, it should be born in August 2020. I was feeling immensely stupid and like I won't achieve anything in life but my recruiters reminded me I could re-enlist after I have the baby. My boyfriend is a future sailor set to start boot camp in January 2020, so if I were to re-enlist, we'd both be active duty.

If I were to finish basic training and go to A-school, would free military work out something so my kid is living with me? What about deployments? Would I have to leave him/her behind?
