BAE Systems awarded $22,7 million for three Mk110 57mm weapons systems for U.S. Navy

Posted on May 15, 2019

BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., BAE Systems owned subsidiary by Britain’s biggest defense company BAE Systems, has received orders totaling $22,7million from the U.S. Navy for three Mk110 57mm weapons systems.

According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Defense, BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., from Minnesota, is awarded a $22,7 million modification to previously awarded contract for the production of three 57mm Mk110 Mod 0 gun mounts and associated hardware.

The new 57mm Mk110, internationally known as the Bofors’ 57Mk3, provides high survivability and tactical freedom at all levels of conflict. The 57mm Mk110 has this flexibility, which is proven by the fact that it is the deck gun of choice for the US Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter and offshore patrol cutter classes of ships, as well as for the US Navy’s LCS ships.

For reference, LCS is a high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatant designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants.

According to the Department of Defense, this contract modification will result in the production of three MK 110 Mod 0 gun mounts(GM).

“The MK 110 GM consists of a 57mm gun, ammunition hoist, power distribution panel, muzzle velocity radar, barrel-mounted television camera and a ruggedized laptop computer gun control panel,” said in a statement.

Also added that work will be performed in Louisville, Kentucky, and is expected to be complete by January 2022.
