JLTV tactical vehicle turns into tank hunter

Posted on April 17, 2019

Newest  U.S. Armed Forces Joint Light Tactical Vehicle or JLTV will receive new weapon station armed with Javelin anti-tank guided weapon.

On 16 April, Scott Gourley has released on its Twitter account photo of JLTV fitted with an LW 30 weapon station with an M230 LF cannon and coaxial Javelin anti-tank missile.

The LW 30 weapon station, commonly known as Protector RWS-LW30, is armed with a 30 mm dual-feed cannon and offer modularity for single weapon, dual weapon and even triple weapon configuration where the M230LF main weapon, 7.62mm coax weapon and a Javelin ATM can be installed simultaneously.

This flexibility and modularity provides the capability for high power arms for many operational needs and switching between the installed weapons is easily performed by the operator from the intuitive Human Machine Interface.

The Javelin anti-tank missile, installed on the roof of JLTV turned him to tank hunter and provides capabilities to engage enemy tanks or heavy combat vehicles.

According to Scott Gourley, the new version of JLTV with Javelin was unveiled during Bushmaster User Conference in Arizona.

For reference, the newest family of JLTV developed to replace ageing HMMWVs currently in service with U.S. infantry forces including the Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.

As previously reported, the JLTV family of vehicles comes in different variants—general purpose, heavy guns carrier, utility, and close combat weapons carrier—all providing protected, sustained, networked mobility that balances payload, performance and protection across the full range of military operations.

Speaking of platform lethality, one effort highlighted at #BUC2019 explores the possibilities of an @OshkoshDefense #JLTV equipped with a Kongsberg LW30. /M230LF wpn station pic.twitter.com/UNMZUbtmyD
