Mysterious Black Hawk helicopter spotted near Mosul in Iraq

Posted on February 25, 2017

The mysterious modification of Black Hawk helicopter was spotted Mosul city’s airport in northern Iraq on February 24, 2017.

A helicopter patrols at the site as Iraqi security forces advance forward positions after they retook the Mosul International Airport during an operation carried out to retake western part of Mosul from Daesh in Mosul.

That was reported by Anadolu Agency.

According to experts, the mysterious helicopter is a special operations modification MH-60L or  MH-60M Black Hawk used by the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (“Night Stalkers”).

The MH-60L DAP, also known informally as the “AH-60L,” the upgrade of MH-60L was initiated in 1990 with the addition of forward looking infrared (FLIR), radar and standard UH-60 external stores support systems.

Its mission is to conduct attack helicopter operations utilizing area fire or precision guided munitions and armed infiltration or exfiltration of small units.
