Patria demonstrates AMV’s live-fire capabilities in Bulgaria

Posted on June 3, 2018

Finland’s Patria has demonstrated the AMV modern armoured wheeled vehicle’s capabilities to the Bulgarian Army at the military polygon “Zmeevo”.

It involved a live-fire demonstration of the Patria AMV armoured wheeled vehicle, which was outfitted with a Samson Mk II 30mm remote weapon stations (RWS) equipped with a Spike LR precision missile system.

Finnish company Patria intends to take part in the modernization of the Bulgarian Army by participating in the procedure for the acquisition of new armored vehicles for the Land Forces. Patria is the market leader in the product segment of modern armoured wheeled 8×8 vehicles with deliveries to seven different customer nations.

During the demonstration were shown a capability of the Samson Mk II RWS, and earlier on the Anevo test range, evaluation tests were conducted. The Samson Mk II is a dual-axis, gyro-stabilized, dual-sight (Gunner and Commander) remote-controlled weapon system capable of mounting multiple weapons.

The Samson MKII enables forces to effectively close the fire loop with varying degrees of firepower, from 7.62mm on the coaxial machine gun, through 30mm main gun and up to ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) engagement ranges. This gives forces mission flexibility in both urban and open country scenarios, with maximum survivability for the vehicle and crew.

An important part of Patria’s proposal to the Bulgarian side is the possibility the vehicles to be produced in Bulgaria by transfer of technology and know-how. Patria has presented the key success elements of a technology transfer program – evaluation, detailed planning, building up factory facilities, support of the implementation and product deliveries, as well as support in the fielding phase.
