The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has announced on 20 September that Raytheon and Lockheed Martin’s joint venture company has received a $27.6 million contract modification for foreign military sales of the Javelin anti-tank missile for foreign military sales for Ukraine and other five countries.

According to DoD’sstatement,  joint venture company was awarded a $27,595,202 modification (P00119) to contract W31P4Q-13-C-0129 for Javelin weapons system full-rate production for foreign military sales for Australia, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey, Taiwan and Ukraine.

The DoD also added that all work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 31, 2021.

Javelin is the world’s most versatile and lethal one-man-portable, anti-tank, guided munition and surveillance weapon system. It is made by the Javelin Joint Venture, a partnership between Raytheon Company and Lockheed Martin.

Javelin is combat proven and has a greater than 94 percent reliability rate. It can be deployed from multiple platforms and used in all weather, day or night operations.

Ukraine has received a first batch of the Javelin anti-tank missiles from the United States as a military aid package at the beginning of 2018.

The United States has been one of Kyiv’s staunchest supporters since Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the subsequent outbreak of fighting in Ukraine’s eastern Donbass region that has killed more than 10,000 people.
