35 years old and I'm contemplating joining ROTC.
Posted on
I recently received acceptance into my university for a Master's degree, and the school has a pretty good Army ROTC program. Joining the Army has always been something on my mind, and now I feel it's a now-or-never situation due to my age. Also, becoming an officer and gaining military experience would greatly boost up my resume for my civilian career. The only concern I have is my age. I just turned 35, no prior military experience. The good thing is that I am single, no children, clean record, and in decent shape. I have few questions I want to ask here. How hard is it to get approve for an age waiver (For the Army reserve specifically)? Additionally, I have noticed that most people in the ROTC program are in their early or mid-20s. Will I stand out like a sore thump? Is it uncommon or awkward for a person in their mid-30s to join at this stage? I would like to hear the experiences of those who joined later in life, particularly in the Army.
