Seafood allergy waiver?
Posted on
I’m am an undergraduate student interested in commissioning and obtaining a pilot slot in the military through OTS/OCS (not particularly picky on what branch I fly in I’d go wherever I’m accepted).
However, when I was younger (under the age of 5) I had an allergic reaction to salmon (I vomited and was given Benadryl and was fine. I did not require epinephrine). After this reaction I got a skin prick test and was diagnosed with an allergy to salmon, tuna, and flounder.
Since then I have never had an allergic reaction I also used to work at a restaurant in high school and handled salmon and I never had a problem. However, I did a skin prick allergy test a few months ago and I am still in fact allergic to those three fish.
Is something like this realistically waiverable? Are certain branches more likely to waiver this? I have never done an oral food challenge, but I would be willing to do one since that seems to be something you need to do to get a waiver. Other than this I have no other health issues or things that would DQ me from military service.
