Posting & Commenting Rules - Please read before participating! Thank you!

Posts that violate rules will be removed, usually without comment or notice. Arguing with us about a removal will result in a ban. Direct questions to the mod team.
Rule 1: You must post a story. Please only post one story per three (3) days. Stories must be from your actual military service, or that of a close family relative. This does NOT include cadet organizations such as British ATC, US Civil Air Patrol, JROTC, Boy Scouts, Young Marines, etc. Images without a story may be suitable for /r/MilitaryPorn.
Rule 2: No fictional stories. If it is a story from a family member, make that clear in your post. No other third person stories are allowed, even from fellow service members. No news stories, interviews, etc. Stories posted “with permission” from other sites do not count and will be removed.
Rule 3: No identifying information. [PERSEC] Try to keep private information to a minimum or don't post it at all. Part of PERSEC and OPSEC considerations is that readers NEVER try to identify equipment if the author does not want to identify it, or guess what country an author is from if they don't want to say. You may be banned for doing so.
Rule 4: No external links or cross-posting besides Wikipedia for reference in your story. This is a place for stories that you have, not stories or videos from other websites or sub-reddits. No reaction gifs and the like. Image links are now allowed on beta status. They must be relevant to the story at hand, for reference only. Beware of PERSEC if you post a picture of someone, and OPSEC if it is from deployment. You may be asked to remove an image for any reason. This is a writing sub.
Rule 5: No law enforcement posts unless related to military (i.e. MP, court-martial, etc). This means stories from jobs like police, SWAT, and Border Patrol are not fitting. Check out /r/TalesFromTheSquadCar for related stories.
Rule 6: No bots. Bots will be perma-banned, and if you are found to be the one running a bot, you will be perma-banned. Keep it out of our sub. The metric bot, suicide helpline bot and remindme bot are the three exceptions. Good bots. Do not report those bots.
Rule 7: No sales of any kind, including links to your ebook or links to a story on an external site that could be monetized.
Rule 8: Reposts are now allowed as of 10/19. Rules for reposts are: • Your original post must be at least TWO (2) (II) (Dos) (Zwei) (Deux) years old. • Please DO NOT delete the old one. Good conversations are still there. • It must be your content, from this sub, that you are reposting. • Limit your reposts to once a month. We don't want to drown out new content. • Tag your repost title with [RE-POST] so everyone knows. • If you link to another story of yours that is relevant, it should count as a repost for you for that story as well, so no using it again for at least two years.
Rule 9: BE NICE! This means engage in civil conversation. DO NOT FEED TROLLS! Report trolls and the mod team will happily handle it.
Rule 10: Arbitrary mods. We may enforce any other rule that may or may not exist as we see fit.
Commenting Rules Besides the other rules, remember not to guess or discuss nation of service or identify equipment if the author doesn't specifically say. You may be perma-banned. Do not "call bullshit" on an author. Any story you don't like, downvote and move on. If you feel the need, report it and the mod team will investigate. Thank you!
Have a story?
Feel free to post it! See the rules above before you post. They don't all have to be funny or humorous.
Like a story?
Upvote it! Comment on it. However, don't attempt to pass it off as your own. This means no publishing without the permission of the author him/herself. The author sharing his or her stories is not permission for you to print them elsewhere whether for free or for payment.
Confused
We're building a list of common jargon, slang, and acronyms that may be used in the stories here on our wiki page. Hopefully these may clear things up a bit. You can also ask the author! They are happy to help you understand.
