Command Sponsorship - Germany
Posted on
Currently in a tricky situation and wanted to see if someone has been or seen a similar situation. I am currently stationed in Germany and recently got married to a local national (German). I want to seek command sponsorship, but I am being told it will not be approved because I have less than a year left at this unit (22Jan2024). However, I do have an approved continous overseas tour (COT) and will be PCSing to my new unit with a projected report date of 10Mar2024. This unit is literally an hour and some change down the road from where I am currently stationed. My current unit is saying if I want to command sponsors my wife, I would have to extend at my current unit to meet the 12 months time on station that is required. I find that absurd as I have 6 months left and I am literally moving right down the road. Also, my spouse is a German citizen who literally lives in the same city that I am currently stationed in. If I do not get her command sponsored, we would not be able to get housing together, I would have to PCS without her, and my upcoming tour would be considered unaccompanied until I am able to command sponsor her in my next unit. Seems like that brings more hardship on a family than anything.
Sorry for the long post! Anything helps!
