Keeping the Officers in line
Posted on
Got to reminiscing with old Bud and this came up- still makes me laugh....and still amazes me I didn't do more digger time :)
Back in my Army days the Officers were heading out on a day long TEWT (tactical exercise without troops). As they were all loading into their van I came running up with a piece of rope about 20~ feet long, with a 6" loop tied in every few feet and passed it to the CO. He asked what it was for, and I advised him that herding this many junior officers was going to be tough without Sr NCO's to help, and that the rope had a loop at the front for him, and one for each of his subbies. All he had to do was have the subbies take a loop in hand and follow him around. As for missing subbies: all the CO had to do was look for an empty loop to know he was missing one of his officers. The subbies were pissed. The CO was jubilant. Not only did he take the rope, danged if he didn't make them hold their loops as they pranced around the field.
Ya'll have a great day!!
