Seeking USAJobs Application Advice
Posted on
Hello. I’m polishing up a 4 page resume (for 10 years of service) and find myself pondering dumb questions. The jobs I’ll be applying to have direct correlation to my military career.
Job Related Training. Things like NCO Academy probably is a waste of space. But would something like taking a 35 hour project management course from XX Institute be something to capture on a resume (if the job requires project management skills)? Or should job related training be more for certificates, such as a PMP?
Quarterly, Annual, Medals (ex. NCO of the Quarter, Commendation Medal, etc.). Wouldn’t place it for the civilian sector, but since the jobs are DoD, is this value added, frowned upon, or fluff?
-If you’re selected for promotion to the next rank/grade but waiting on your monthly increment, would you find a way to sneak it in your resume? What makes me think of this, is X rank is equivalent to GS-XX.
Veteran/Disability stuff. Not sure how it works on the application to get veteran points if you’re still AD (I’ll be applying before receiving the DD214). My in-service medical records/diagnosis/etc. align to a large rating per the Title 38 guidelines using the crazy formula. But from what I’ve read, there’s no chance to receive a rating prior to separation?
Thank you for any tips/advice!
