Am I entitled to Survivor benefits?
Posted on
Apologies in advance if this is breaking any rules or maybe not the most appropriate place to post this question...
My father (now deceased) was in the Marine Reserve in the early-mid 90s and ended up being deployed during the Gulf War. I was a very small child at the time and have only become more aware of the circumstances as I have gotten older and prodded family members for info.
Long story short once my bio father returned from deployment he was a very different person and fell into addiction and eventually committed suicide.
It's unfortunate that I have so little information not only regarding my father's individual circumstances but that information regarding survivor benefits is so minimal online (maybe I am not looking in the right places?). Anyway my question is , is there any way that I might be entitled to any sort of survivor benefits? Are there any resources or options for me to speak with a specialist about it? As far as I am aware my father's (assumed) PTSD and other mental health issues were not diagnosed in any capacity.
Any help is appreciated.
