Military Reserve Pension

Doing the calculations/estimating the monthly pension payment comes out to be nearly equal to what I'd receive for a weekend drill.
So it just seems for each month you'd recieve your monthly drill pay upon reaching age 59. I think the points system seems a little overcomplicated.
I don't really understand why they don't just have your retirement pensions monthly pay be directly equal to your drill pay based on rank since the value is nearly the same.
Maybe I'm wrong because that doesn't take into consideration the AD time of prior service but for a reservist who's never been Actived then it seems to not be a huge difference.
