Thinking of joining at 29
Posted on
I'm a mechanical engineering by training a Field support engineer for an unmanned boat company that was recently acquired by a large defense contractor. I sense some changes coming as a result of the acquisition, and as I was thinking of my options if I decide to leave, I'm considering the military route.
The benefits to me seem to be that it's a secure career move and with the student loan repayment and housing stipend and whatnot, I'll probably be close to breaking even financially.
I'm really just looking for general advise. What can I expect in terms of total compensation, which branches would fit my situation best, the lifestyle, etc.
I want to make sure it's something I actually might want to do before moving further.
Thanks.
