World War II Purple Heart

Mods: If this isn't the correct way/place to post this please let me know. I just need a bit of help.
When my grandpa passed away, he left me a Winchester model 12 shotgun that belonged to his uncle (my great great uncle). Inside the case the shotgun was in, was a Purple Heart that was awarded to his uncle posthumously, as he died in Africa during WWII.
I feel like the Purple Heart deserves more respect than sitting in a shotgun case, but I don't want to display it and give off the impression that it's mine. Any advice for this? The only thing I'm 100% rock solid on is that I do not want to donate it. I'd like to keep it in the family. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure my cousins and siblings would sell it if it ended up with them, so I know there's no one in my family that wants it.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I know it's a weird question to ask but I know how much my other grandpa's Purple Heart meant to him and I learned from him that it's something that is earned, not won or given, and because of that it should be shown respect.
