Should USSOCOM be elevated to a service?

With all the space force shenanigans going on, I've been thinking about new force structures in the era of great power competition. It seems to me that in order to divest the regular forces of the expense and difficulty of training, manning, and equipping for both a conventional war with China/ Russia/ DPRK/ Iran, while also sustaining and engaging in low intensity brushfire conflicts around the globe, why shouldn't the US elevate SOCOM to a service and charge it with all unconventional war, FID, low intensity wars, etc. They could a acquire and use light attack craft and the various unsurvivable RPAs that cost the Air Force so much money without actually supporting air dominance. They could train, equip, and field the snake eaters and hill-humpers they want. They could invest in the artisanal tactical vehicles, technology and weapons they need without having to fight against DDG or F-35 acquisition. The regular forces could focus on the TTPs and equipment they need to pull a Desert Storm on China or whoever. SOCOM could still recruit from the other services as well, and could absolutely retain their functions in support of regular forces in the event of a neer peer conflict, but everyone would be back to focusing on the specific tasks they need to be able to accomplish. What do you think?
