"Who here has a drivers license!?" - South African Military Story.

Posted on June 13, 2022

This one was told to me by my father.

When he was in for his "diensplig" (Lit mandatory military service) it was about 1966/67.

In those days getting "revved" and "okgefok" (fucked up - basically PT and "makierie pas" drills until you threw up) was par for the course, and his intake experience was no different.

(I am unsure if the event he told me happened on the actual first or second day)

So,...

Airtight security

Posted on June 13, 2022

I always laugh anytime someone talks about how a place has airtight security “like it’s guarded by Marines”. If you’re a vet you probably know what kind of idiot crayon eaters they are depending on.

I was an airframe mech at HMX-1 in Quantico back in the late 90s. We had the white top “Marine One” helicopters that were housed in their own secure hangar that was called “the cage”. Unlike most air...

My MC

Posted on June 13, 2022

So, I figured I'd go ahead and tell the story of my malicious compliance. I'll include a TL;DR but there is a bit of back-story involved.

So, fortunately for me, I only did 2 years. But, unfortunately, I ruptured the fascia in my left foot, damn near my right, and was told by the brilliant medical doctors of the military I'd never walk again.I can, but it's not always fun.

So, be me, just...

"Wait for someone to show." Roger sergeant.

Originally posted this on r/maliciouscompliance, someone suggested sharing here as well. I cut out the couple paragraphs explaining military life for y'all.

This happened around 2018, give or take a year. I was in my mid-twenties, a specialist in the US army infantry. I was stationed on Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, which is a pretty small post.

So one day my squad leader tells me I'm getting put...

The legend of the Poo Bandit

Posted on June 10, 2022

Most of us have funny poop stories, but I have far too many… So many in fact the guys from my Sniper section called me”The Poo Bandit”. Not a nickname used daily, but enough to where I knew it belonged to me.

The first time wasn’t anything too funny or special. It took place at Fort Benning during the FTX at USASS (Sniper School) in 2013. It was December in Georgia so it was super cold and wet in...

The Machine's Spirit

Posted on June 5, 2022

I'll try and keep this as coherent as possible, but putting my thoughts on paper/post is only slightly better than speaking when it comes to conveying them, simply because I have the ability to review the word format of the thought before conveying it. This is not so much a story as it is multiple events that tie into an overarching theme on something that shaped my perception in my naval service....

When the Admiral singles you out!

Posted on June 4, 2022

Years ago as many of us bored souls have done while sitting in the desert, we decided to see who had the most testosterone and grow out our trash stache's. We had been at it for a while, and no one really though much of it when we found out a VIP would be around one day. Uniforms would be as on point as possible, the officers would do their thing to impress, and we'd just sit back and look pretty....

Keeping the Officers in line

Posted on June 2, 2022

Got to reminiscing with old Bud and this came up- still makes me laugh....and still amazes me I didn't do more digger time :)

Back in my Army days the Officers were heading out on a day long TEWT (tactical exercise without troops). As they were all loading into their van I came running up with a piece of rope about 20~ feet long, with a 6" loop tied in every few feet and passed it to the CO. He...

SPC BikerJedi and Taking Pride in Your Equipment. (Or, our hero is a maintenance god, and another guy isn't.) [RE-POST]

Posted on June 2, 2022

We sat around at the docks forever waiting for our equipment to come in for Desert Shield. I think it was a couple months. But it sucked. The boredom was eternal. We were in a large camp just set up along the dock where stuff was coming in. So not only was it stupid desert hot, it was HUMID. I live in Florida now, and it isn't much better.

So yeah, lots of laying around, napping, reading, etc. As...
